Commercial De-fits Melbourne

Office & Shop De-fits.

Refreshing a space without vacating it, or handing back a shop that's due for a change of hands. A de-fit takes out what's no longer needed and leaves the base fitout ready for what's next.

Understanding De-fits

De-fit, Stripout or Demolition? Here's the Difference.

De-fit

A de-fit is the removal of fixtures, fittings, signage and non-structural elements from a commercial space, while the base fitout, ceiling grid and services largely stay in place. It's the lighter-touch option, common when a retailer, franchise or tenant is refreshing rather than vacating.

  • Fixture, fitting & signage removal
  • Shopfront & joinery removal
  • Point-of-sale & display removal
  • Careful handling to protect the base fitout
  • Waste disposal included

Stripout

A stripout goes further than a de-fit by removing partitions, ceilings and flooring back to a clean shell. It's the right call when you're vacating entirely or starting completely fresh.

Demolition

Demolition is the most involved of the three, with internal or selective structural removal, permits and safe work method statements included.

What We Remove

Precise Removal. Base Fitout Protected.

Fixtures & Fittings

Shelving, display units, counters and joinery removed cleanly, without disturbing what's staying.

Signage

Internal and external signage removed safely, including anything requiring specialist access.

Point-of-Sale & Fit-Specific Elements

Anything tied to the outgoing tenant's operation rather than the base building – checkouts, display fixtures, branded fitout elements.

Flooring & Finishes (Where Required)

Removed only where the incoming fitout needs it, not by default. We scope this specifically for your job rather than stripping back further than necessary.

Waste Removal & Disposal

All debris cleared and disposed of responsibly, in line with EPA requirements.

A de-fit removes fixtures, fittings and signage while leaving the base fitout (ceiling, partitions, flooring) largely in place. A stripout goes further, removing those base elements too, back to a clean shell. If you're not sure which one your space needs, give us a call and we'll work it out together.

In many cases, yes. Retail and hospitality de-fits especially are often done in stages, or after hours, to keep disruption to trade as low as possible. We'll talk through what's realistic for your space during the site visit.

Most de-fits are quicker than a full stripout, since less is coming out. Exact timing depends on the space and scope, we'll put together a programme with your quote.

Yes. Where a de-fit needs sign-off from a landlord, centre management or body corporate, we manage that communication directly so you don't have to chase it yourself.

Every job is different – it depends on the size of the space and what's coming out. A free site visit gets you a fully itemised, fixed quote at no cost or obligation.
